Shimano Dura Ace R9200 – The Science of Speed

Speed was the mainspring in the development of this 12-speed road bike series of a new generation. Several years of research produced those innovations that make the Shimano Dura Ace R9200 even faster. Every component has been revised, refined and optimised to enable the decisive seconds of advantage – whether as a breakaway from the peloton or in the finish sprint on the Champs-Élysées.

In the electronic Di2 version, the Dura Ace relies on Wireless technology where it matters to make shifting even faster and more reliable. Smooth shifting is also the aim of the Hyperglide+ system, already known from the MTB segment, which is designed to bring out maximum performance and the full potential of every racer.

Hyperglide+ technology has already set standards in the off-road sector where it has been able to convince with its smooth shifting processes in both directions across the entire gear range.

With the Shimano Dura Ace CS-R9200 cassette, this concept now also finds its way onto road bikes to ensure worry-free upshifting and downshifting, whether it is the highest power input on climbs or the sprint to the finish line.

While larger teeth ensure maximum efficiency, the change to 12 gears is made without an increase in weight. And the 12-speed cassette is even compatible with Shimano’s previous 11-speed freewheel bodies. This makes the CS-R9200 the cassette of choice on road bikes.

Hyperglide+

The conventional Hyperglide technology ensures smooth shifting upwards thanks to small shifting ramps, which guide the chain towards the next larger sprocket. Also Hyperglide+ uses this functionality but applies it in the opposite direction, too, preventing the chain from falling down when shifting downwards. The result is a smooth and consistent shifting in both directions, free of vibrations and without disrupting the cadence.
