The Shimano S-PHYRE SH-XC903 is Shimano’s premium lightweight off-road shoe, built for cross-country and cyclocross racers. A stiff carbon sole and a low stack height midsole put your power straight into the pedal, while two low-profile BOA® Li2 dials and a crossover lacing pattern pull the upper evenly around your foot. The lower dial is shielded, so a knock from a rock will not open it by accident.
A heel cup with anti-twist stabilisation keeps your foot locked in during hard accelerations and fast spinning, and variable-size perforations in the upper let air through and give a little stretch for different foot shapes. Off the bike, the ULTREAD XC rubber outsole grips on loose and slick ground, and the talon-shaped toe spikes in the box add bite for steep, muddy climbs, whether you are racing at Hatta, riding the Showka trail in Ras Al Khaimah or doing laps of the Al Qudra MTB loop.

- Measure your foot: stand on a sheet of paper against a wall, mark your longest toe and measure in cm. Race shoes should fit snugly; Shimano says if you are between sizes, go up one. The half sizes (44.5, 45.5) help you get it right. The full chart and measuring guide are in the last photo.
- Standard width: this is the regular fit. Shimano also makes an SH-XC903 Wide; we don’t stock it here, so message us and we will check.
- Cleats not included: add Shimano SPD cleats such as the SM-SH51 or SM-SH56.

What makes it work
Dual BOA® Li2 dials
Two low-profile dials and crossover lacing give even pressure over the whole foot, adjustable in small steps. The lower dial is shielded against impacts.
Stiff carbon sole
A carbon sole with a low stack height midsole keeps your foot stable and close to the pedal for efficient pedalling, hour after hour.
Anti-twist heel cup
Holds the heel in place on sprints and fast cadence. The surround-wrap upper with variable-size perforations fits like a glove and breathes.
ULTREAD XC grip
A light rubber outsole with a technical tread for running and pushing on slick terrain. Fit the included talon-shaped spikes for muddy courses.

Which size should I order?

Do they come with cleats or spikes?
Shimano includes talon-shaped toe spikes. Cleats are sold separately: the SH-XC903 takes Shimano SPD (2-bolt) cleats, and we stock the SM-SH51 and SM-SH56.
How stiff is the sole?
Shimano dealers list a stiffness index of 11 for the SH-XC903’s carbon sole, against 7 for the SH-XC503. It is a race shoe: very direct, and still made for long days in the saddle.
Is this the wide version?
No. This is the standard width (the “S” before the size in the code). Shimano makes an SH-XC903 Wide as a separate version; it is not stocked here, so message us and we will check.
Do they work with road (SPD-SL) pedals?
No. The sole takes 2-bolt SPD cleats for MTB-style SPD pedals, not 3-bolt road cleats.
What is the product code?
Shimano ESHXC903MCL01 (Black) and ESHXC903MCW01 (White), standard width; the size follows, for example ESHXC903MCL01S44500 is Black EU 44.5.
