The Best Places to Cycle in Dubai & the UAE: Tracks & Routes

Few places in the world have invested in cycling like the UAE. In a single week you can ride a flat desert loop past gazelles, do hill repeats on a real Formula 1 circuit, and spin floodlit laps after dark when the daytime heat makes riding impossible. Whether you’re chasing your first 20 kilometres or training for a sportive, there’s a purpose-built track for it here.

Here’s our rundown of the best places to ride across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and how to match the right bike to each one.

Al Qudra Cycle Track (Dubai)

Al Qudra is the one everyone starts with, and for good reason. This dedicated desert track offers a beginner-friendly 50 km outer loop, with connected extensions building all the way up to the famous 86 km circuit that once set a Guinness World Record. The tarmac is smooth, the route is car-free, and early mornings bring gazelles, oryx and Arabian wildlife alongside the path.

It’s flat and fast, which makes it perfect territory for a road bike – but there’s almost no shade, so this is strictly a sunrise or winter ride. Bring more water than you think you’ll need; the desert is unforgiving once the sun is up. The wider Al Qudra network also takes in the Seih Al Salam stretch – a road-cyclist favourite with a well-known cafe stop along the way. It all rewards a light, efficient bike; if you’re weighing up your options, our guides on carbon vs. aluminium frames and using your gears are a useful starting point.

Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park (Dubai)

If Al Qudra is the winter classic, Nad Al Sheba is the year-round all-rounder. This dedicated cycle park – a converted camel track by Meydan Racecourse (you’ll also hear it called the Meydan cycle track) – is a single, closed ~10 km loop with air-conditioned changing rooms, showers and lockers on site. Only part of the circuit is lit, so it’s at its best for early-morning and dusk rides rather than full after-dark laps – but the views across to the Burj Khalifa make it worth the trip.

Because it’s a fully closed, car-free loop, it’s also one of the safest places to build confidence or ride as a family. Aim for an early start in the warmer months (see our UAE heat survival guide) – and it’s a great spot to get children rolling, too. Browse our kids’ bikes.

Kite Beach Cycle Track & the Coastal Route (Dubai)

Not every ride has to be a desert epic. Dubai’s coastal cycle track is one of the city’s best-connected routes – a smooth, largely traffic-separated path linking Dubai Marina to Kite Beach and on along the Business Bay Canal all the way to Meydan, with a spur continuing towards Deira. Ride it end to end or dip in for a short seafront spin; it stitches the coast, the canal and the Meydan loop into one flowing route. Flat and forgiving, it’s one of the best places in Dubai to start out, commute, or take an easy family ride – and a perfect spot to get the kids rolling on our kids’ bikes.

Al Hudayriat Island (Abu Dhabi)

Just a short drive from central Abu Dhabi, Al Hudayriat Island has become one of the Emirates’ best cycling destinations. Its bike park runs 5 km and 10 km tarmac loops with sea views, plus dedicated off-road trails graded for beginner, intermediate and expert riders. That mix makes it ideal for families and mixed-ability groups – the little ones can build skills on the easy loops while stronger riders tackle the trails.

Al Wathba Cycle Track (Abu Dhabi)

Al Wathba is Abu Dhabi’s answer to Al Qudra, with a clever nested design of 8, 16, 20, 22 and 30 km loops so you can dial in exactly the distance you want. Best of all for summer, it’s lit by solar-powered lights at night – a genuine option when daytime riding is off the table.

Yas Marina Circuit (Abu Dhabi)

Yes, you can ride a Formula 1 track. On select evenings each week, the world-famous Yas Marina Circuit opens to the public for free cycling, running and walking. Riding the same corners the F1 grid races on is a genuine bucket-list experience, and the smooth, closed circuit is a brilliant, safe place to push your pace after dark.

The UAE’s best-kept cycling secret isn’t a route – it’s the night tracks that let you ride all summer.

Hatta – When You Want to Climb

Flat is the norm here, so when riders crave elevation they head to Hatta in the Hajar Mountains. Its winding mountain roads and dedicated mountain-bike trails are the closest thing to real climbing in the region – rewarding, scenic and a proper test of fitness. This is terrain for a capable road bike or a gravel bike rather than a track machine.

Which Bike for Which Track?

The short version: for the smooth, flat tracks that make up most UAE riding – Al Qudra, Al Wathba, Yas Marina – a road bike is the fastest, most enjoyable choice. For Hatta’s mountains or the mixed off-road trails at Al Hudayriat, a gravel bike handles the varied surfaces with ease. And for family sessions on the safe, closed loops at Nad Al Sheba or Al Hudayriat, a properly sized kids’ bike makes all the difference. Not sure what fits? Come and talk it through at our Dubai showroom.

When to Ride: Season & Big Events

The UAE’s prime cycling season runs roughly from October to April, when the weather is comfortable all day; through summer, riding shifts to dawn and to the region’s floodlit night tracks like Al Wathba (see above) and our heat survival guide. The cooler months also bring the region’s marquee events – from the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge to L’Etape Dubai by Tour de France – which draw thousands of riders and make a brilliant goal to train towards. We’ll round these up in a dedicated UAE cycling events guide soon; until then, our community rides are a great way to build up to them.

Before You Head Out

Wherever you ride, a few habits keep it safe and fun. Give your bike a quick pre-ride check, carry plenty of water and electrolytes for the desert tracks, and in the warmer months plan around the heat using our summer riding guide. Sun protection, lights for the night tracks, and a well-ventilated helmet are non-negotiable. To pinpoint any of these tracks and plan your route, the interactive maps at cyclingtracks.ae are a handy companion.
