BMC Dropout #58 is the genuine BMC standard-mount rear derailleur hanger, BMC article number 301092. It is the hanger fitted to the Roadmachine, URS and Timemachine 01 platforms, and it is the one you need if your rear derailleur bolts to the hanger in the conventional way.
Drivetrain compatibility — read this first
BMC specifies dropout #58 for 11-speed standard derailleurs. In BMC’s own words, these are compatible:
- SRAM 11-speed
- Shimano 11 and 12-speed Direct Attachment
- Campagnolo 12-speed
Not recommended with SRAM 12-speed derailleurs. If you are running SRAM AXS 12-speed, you want Dropout #70 (302109) instead.
Shimano users: BMC states that the Shimano B-Link must be used with dropout #58.
Standard mount or direct mount?
#58 and #59 (301093) fit exactly the same frames and are easy to confuse. The difference is how the derailleur attaches:

Why a bent dropout is worth replacing
A derailleur hanger is a sacrificial part. Even a small bend you cannot see by eye pulls the rear derailleur out of parallel with the cassette, and the symptoms look exactly like a worn drivetrain: hesitant shifts in one direction, chain noise in the largest sprockets, a gear that will not hold. On an electronic groupset it can also show up as repeated auto-trim or a shift that refuses to complete.
A bent hanger is also the thing standing between a hard shift and a destroyed rear derailleur or a torn carbon frame. If your bike has been knocked over, shipped, or has shifted into the spokes, replace the hanger rather than trying to live with it.
Fitting
- Remove the rear wheel and the rear derailleur before unbolting the dropout.
- Clean the frame interface and use a little grease or the assembly paste specified for your frame on the bolts.
- Tighten to the torque printed on the frame or given in your BMC manual. Do not guess on a carbon frame.
- Have the alignment checked with a hanger alignment gauge once fitted. A new hanger is not automatically a straight one.

Common questions
What is the Shimano B-Link and do I need it?
It is the small link that sits between a Shimano rear derailleur and the hanger. BMC specifies that it must be used with dropout #58. If your derailleur came with one, keep it and refit it. If you are unsure, ask us.
I run SRAM AXS. Is this the right hanger?
No. BMC does not recommend #58 with SRAM 12-speed. The hanger for SRAM AXS 12-speed on these frames is Dropout #70 (302109).
How do I tell #58 from #59 without removing the wheel?
Look at how the rear derailleur attaches. A direct-mount Shimano derailleur bolts onto a flat machined face with the hanger acting as the mount; a standard derailleur bolts through a threaded eye. If in doubt, photograph it and send it to us.
My shifting went bad after a crash. Is it the dropout?
Very often, yes. A hanger can look straight and still be a degree or two out, which is enough to ruin indexing across the cassette. It is the first thing a mechanic checks.
Should I keep a spare?
If you travel with the bike or ride your URS off road, yes. A hanger is small, cheap next to a rear derailleur, and it is the part that ends a trip when it goes.
