Woom Kids’ Bike Size Guide: How to Measure & Choose the Right Fit

Lime-green Woom 3 kids' bike - Bikeera Woom size guide

Ask any parent whose child abandoned a bike after a week and there’s usually one culprit: the bike was the wrong size. Too big and it feels heavy, tippy and frightening; too small and it’s cramped and quickly outgrown. Woom built its whole range around getting this right – lightweight bikes sized in careful increments so there’s a genuinely perfect fit for every stage. This guide walks you through how to find it.

Why Fit Matters More Than Age

It’s tempting to shop by age – “she’s five, so she needs a five-year-old’s bike” – but children of the same age can vary enormously in height and leg length. That’s why Woom sizes its bikes by a child’s height and, more precisely, their inseam (inner-leg length), not their birthday. Age is only a rough starting point. Get the fit right and your child can plant their feet, reach the brakes, and feel in control – which is exactly what builds confidence.

The Woom Size Chart

Each Woom model is built around a wheel size, with deliberate overlap between models so there’s always a comfortable fit. Use this as your starting point, then confirm with an inseam measurement (next section).

Woom model Wheel Age (approx) Child height Min. inseam
Woom 1 12″ balance 1.5 – 3.5 yrs 82 – 100 cm ~25 cm
Woom 1 PLUS 14″ balance 3 – 4.5 yrs 95 – 110 cm ~38 cm
Woom 2 14″ pedal 3 – 4.5 yrs 95 – 110 cm ~41 cm
Woom 3 16″ 4 – 6 yrs 105 – 120 cm ~49 cm
Woom 4 20″ 6 – 8 yrs 115 – 130 cm ~56 cm
Woom 5 24″ 7 – 11 yrs 125 – 145 cm ~67 cm
Woom 6 26″ 10 – 14 yrs 140 – 165 cm ~75 cm

Figures based on Woom’s official sizing; heights shown in cm and inseam minimums are approximate. Ranges overlap on purpose – when in doubt, measure the inseam to confirm, or bring your child into our Dubai showroom and we’ll size them properly.

How to Measure Your Child’s Inseam

Inseam – the distance from the inner thigh to the floor – is the most reliable number for sizing, because it mirrors how your child’s legs reach from the saddle to the ground. It takes two minutes and a hardback book:

  1. Have your child stand straight against a wall, wearing the shoes and clothes they’d actually ride in.
  2. Place a hardback book between their legs, spine facing up, and raise it snugly against the crotch – roughly the pressure a saddle would apply.
  3. Mark where the top of the book’s spine meets the wall in pencil.
  4. Measure straight down from the mark to the floor. That’s the inseam – check it against the chart above.

Kids grow fast, so take a fresh measurement rather than relying on an old one. If your child sits between two sizes, the inseam is what settles it.

When Your Child Is Between Sizes

This is the most common question we get, especially for a first pedal bike – a Woom 2 or a Woom 3? Woom’s guidance, and ours, is that for building confidence it’s usually better to go with the smaller of the two. A slightly smaller bike is lighter, easier to start and stop, and lets a child plant their feet flat – all of which makes learning less intimidating and more fun.

A bike that’s a touch too big does the opposite: it’s harder to control, may leave them on tiptoes, and can knock their confidence just when they need it most. The one trade-off is that the smaller bike will be outgrown sooner – but Woom bikes hold their value remarkably well second-hand, so it’s rarely money wasted.

A bike that’s slightly too small builds confidence. A bike that’s too big kills it. When in doubt, size down.

How Long Will a Woom Last?

Buy at the lower end of a model’s height range and most children stay within it for around two years before sizing up. We generally advise against skipping a size to “save money” – a bigger frame also means more weight to handle, and control always comes easier on the right-sized bike. Because Woom bikes are so well made, many families hand them down or resell them, which takes the sting out of moving up.

GO, EXPLORE, OFF or OFF AIR? Choosing the Right Woom

Woom’s range splits two ways – by size and by use. The GO bikes are the smaller, starter range, running from the balance bikes up to the 20″ GO 4 (roughly 18 months to 8 years). These are the lightest, simplest bikes, built for learning to ride and everyday spins on tarmac and easy paths – the first pedal models (GO 2 and 3) deliberately come without gears so kids can master the basics, while the GO 4 adds gears.

The EXPLORE is the larger, sportier all-rounder – the 20″, 24″ and 26″ sizes for roughly 6 to 14 years. It adds gears, disc brakes and grippy all-terrain tyres, so it’s equally at home on tarmac, gravel and light trails. One thing worth knowing: the EXPLORE is accessory-ready rather than fully kitted – mudguards, a rack and lights are optional add-ons, not fitted as standard.

For dedicated off-road riding, the OFF is a light kids’ mountain bike with a rigid carbon fork, while the OFF AIR steps up to a proper air-suspension fork for rougher trails and jumps – both in 20″, 24″ and 26″. If your kids love the dirt, browse our kids’ mountain bikes; for first riders, our balance bikes are where it all begins.

Don’t Forget the Helmet

The right bike deserves the right helmet. Measure around the widest part of your child’s head – about a centimetre above the eyebrows – with a soft tape measure, and match that to the helmet’s size range. If they fall between two sizes, size up; a helmet should sit level and snug without pinching, and shouldn’t rock forward or back. Never hand down a helmet that’s been in a crash.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know what size Woom bike my child needs?Measure your child’s height and inseam (inner-leg length) and match them to the Woom size chart – each model covers a height and wheel-size range. Inseam is the most reliable figure, especially if your child falls between two sizes.

Should I size up so the bike lasts longer? No – a bike that’s too big is harder and scarier to ride and can knock a child’s confidence. Buy the right size now (or size down when between sizes); most children stay in a size for about two years.

What age is each Woom bike for?As a rough guide: Woom 1 (1.5–3.5), Woom 2 (3–4.5), Woom 3 (4–6), Woom 4 (6–8), Woom 5 (7–11) and Woom 6 (10–14). Always confirm by height and inseam, as children of the same age vary a lot.

What’s the difference between Woom GO, EXPLORE, OFF and OFF AIR?GO is the smaller, lightweight starter range (balance bikes up to the 20″ GO 4, ages ~18 months to 8). EXPLORE is the larger sporty all-rounder (20–26″, ages ~6–14) with gears and disc brakes – mudguards, rack and lights are optional extras, not standard. OFF is a rigid kids’ mountain bike and OFF AIR adds a suspension fork for rougher trails.
