The UltRide Evo 8 is a Café du Cycliste × Compressport collaboration — Compressport’s trail-running pack expertise, reworked for the bike. It is an ultralight hydration vest built for the longest, most testing gravel days, where a jersey pocket runs out of room and a backpack is too much.

At a featherweight 130 grams it carries 8 litres: a large main compartment for clothing, side pockets you can reach without stopping, a zipped stash for valuables, and a dedicated sleeve for a 1.5 litre bladder. An intuitive tightening system pulls the whole thing tight to your body, so there is no bounce on rough ground.

A large main compartment swallows a jacket, gilet, tools and food, yet the empty vest weighs about the same as a banana. Nothing here is carried that does not need to be.

Pockets you can reach riding

Chest pockets sit where your hands already are, so flasks, gels and a phone come out without stopping or taking the vest off. A separate zipped stash keeps keys and cards secure.

1.5 L bladder sleeve

A dedicated internal sleeve takes a 1.5 litre reservoir — the difference between a three-hour ride and an all-day one in this heat. Bladder shown is sold separately.

No bounce, no chafe

An intuitive tightening system cinches the vest against your back, and the frictionless build means no rubbing through hours in the drops or on a washboard gravel track.

Why a hydration vest here

Two bottles on the frame is roughly 1.5 litres. In a UAE summer that is not enough for a long ride, and there is nowhere to refill between Al Qudra and the Bab Al Shams turn. This vest roughly doubles what you can carry, without adding weight to the bike.

• Long desert loops — Al Qudra and Al Marmoom, where the next tap is a long way off.
• Gravel and off-road — frame bottles collect dust and eject on washboard; a vest does neither.
• Jebel Jais and Jebel Hafeet — carry a gilet for the descent alongside the water for the climb.

Choosing your size

The vest is sized on chest, waist and hip and is meant to sit close to the body — a loose hydration vest bounces, which is the one thing you do not want. Café du Cycliste’s reference measurements for the smaller sizes are below; if you are between sizes, the tightening system gives a useful range either way.
