A first bike should feel easy: light enough to lift, small enough to put both feet down. That is what we look for in every kids bike we stock, from a toddler’s balance bike to a geared bike for family rides.

Which size? Go by inside leg, not age

Children of the same age can be very different heights, so we size kids bikes by height and inside leg. On Woom’s chart, a 12-inch balance bike suits roughly 1.5 to 3.5 years, a 16-inch bike 4 to 6, a 20-inch bike 6 to 8 and a 24-inch bike 7 to 11. If your child sits between two sizes, go smaller. Balance bikes for toddlers

No pedals and no stabilisers, just pushing along, steering and balancing. Once balance clicks, the move to pedals is short. Start with our balance bikes.

First pedal bikes

For a first pedal bike, lighter is better. The Woom GO 2 and GO 3 come without gears, so children can concentrate on pedalling, steering and stopping. When they are ready for more, the 20-inch sizes add gears.

Kids mountain bikes

Why we stock Woom

A helmet is the one thing every young rider needs from the first ride. Browse our bicycle helmets, and measure around your child’s head about a centimetre above the eyebrows to find the size.

Questions parents ask

Should I buy a size up so it lasts longer? No. A bike that is too big is heavier and harder to control. Buy the right size now. Most children stay in a size for around two years.
